I gave everyone my Credit Card

Hey,

Last year, I made a crazy decision.

I gave everyone on my team my credit card.

Yes, my actual main business card. Not an employee one with a different limit—my personal, unrestricted card.

Anything could have happened.

But I wanted to take the risk. I wanted to see how my employees would act when given full trust.

And this has taught me a huge lesson.

What I learned was the exact opposite of what most people might expect.

Instead of being let down, it confirmed something: I’m simply the 🐐.

Because even though they could have done anything—and I probably wouldn’t have even been able to figure out who did it—they were actually more responsible with the card than I am.

That realization changed how I hire.

Now, after every interview, I ask myself one question:

Would I trust this person with full access to my credit card?

If the answer is no, I instantly decline the applicant.

Because if you can’t fully trust your employees (which doesn’t mean you should blindly trust them), then there’s no point in hiring them.

Cheers,

Tyler
