- why you shouldn't automate everything
why you shouldn't automate everything
Here's the deal:
Everyone's obsessed with automation.
But as someone who runs an operations company, I’ll tell you: not everything should be automated .
Here’s an example:
A client approached me wanting to automate their client onboarding.
They onboard only 2 clients per month & the automation would cost them $5,000, while the manual process takes just 30 minutes.
Even at $100/hour, it would take over 4 years to break even. By then, their onboarding process will almost certainly have changed—making the automation obsolete.
In other words, this automation would cost a lot more money than it saves.
So before you automate, ask yourself:
How frequently do we perform this task?
How long does it take manually?
What's the cost of automation?
How likely is our process to change?
Sometimes, staying manual is actually the smarter move.
Cheers,
